Continuing our opening proposal, “Scenery of the Mind”, the new exhibition titled “Fantasy” brings together some of the foremost exponents of Romanian contemporary art. A panoramic image is imperative in establishing context, allowing for a nuanced enjoyment and better-informed evaluation of individual works. At the same time, from the perspective of the art collector, seeing different styles and approaches in dialogue may inspire on how to expand existing collections and how to shape new ones.
In keeping with the first part of this series, the curator of the exhibition, visual artist Marinela Măntescu-Isac selected both figurative and abstract paintings and sculptures, suggesting a continuum of techniques and intensities of the imaginary in the process of idea formation. In contrast with the rational perspective on the mind, as the ordering and structuring vehicle of human experience, fantasy allows for the testing and resettlement of boundaries, questioning possibilities beyond the lived instance.
Fantasy encapsulates many types of participation - from dreamy retrospective moments to anticipatory attempts to conceptualize the future, from repositioning the self to observe the outside world through different sets of eyes to nurturing empathy as a way to relate to people we have not yet encountered. Art turns fantasy into a tangible object that its own right invites fantasy from the viewer, becoming a collaborative exercise.
At WIN Gallery, we bond to the principle that collaboration unlocks our potential, as separate persons and as evolving communities -through time and circumstances; it beautifies, ennobles, enhances our intelligence and ability to respond in the face of adversity.
We are delighted that so many well-regarded artists accepted to showcase their creations side by side, making a statement not just about their talent and character but about the value of collective intelligence and the shared aspiration for a better society.
